How to Get Rid of Cellulite: Easy tips and products you can start using at home

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

If cellulite bothers you, you’re not alone. Our desire to get rid of — or at least diminish — cellulite has led to many treatment options. With so many treatments and products out there, it can be hard to know what, if anything, works.

Firstly, having cellulite is normal. It's natural and can affect people of all shapes, sizes, ages and genders.

Secondly, having cellulite does not make you any more or less worthy than the next person. Cellulite is a bodily phenomenon and having it (or not having it) should never be taken as a marker of goodness or moral superiority.

Finally – and most importantly – cellulite is not a veritable marker of how healthy you are. We'll dig more into the science of it later on but know that you can be the healthiest version of yourself and still experience cellulite.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite occurs when fat deposits come up through the connective tissue beneath the skin. And, while cellulite affects people of all sizes (because everyone has fat cells), 'it's more common in women than men because the fibrous bands of their connective tissue don't cross over as much to provide support under the skin. Fat (in any quantity) then bulges out from this connective tissue.

You’ll be happy to know that the research shows some treatments and products can make cellulite less noticeable — at least for a while. Here’s the lowdown.

Tip #1 - Avoid Sugars, Sodium and Alcohol

A lot of sugary food and drinks is something we want to stay clear from if you want to reduce cellulite: sugar becomes stored in fat cells, causing them to expand, which can increase the dimpled appearance of those areas. Salt-heavy foods, including ready meals and salt itself, contain sodium, which can cause water retention and bloating.

Lastly, alcohol and soft and fizzy drinks, which are high in sugars and can contribute to fat storage

Tip #2 - Exercise

Get moving! It's one of the best treatments. It won't make your cellulite disappear complety, but strong muscles can make skin appear more even. Try to keep your circulation moving – although it can be tricky depending on your job, try not to sit down all day.. Exercise is key - if you can exercise regularly this will reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Tip #3 - Dry Brushing

A good place to start is to invest in a good wooden body brush. Use morning or evening in circular motions and it helps minimize the appearance of your cellulite. Daily body brushing and massaging can jumpstart lymphatic drainage, which helps to eliminate toxins that can accumulate in the fat layer, leading to inflammation and ultimately more pronounced cellulite.

Tip #4 - Retinol

Cellulite can become more visible as you age and your skin becomes thinner and loses elasticity. This exposes the rippled connective tissues underneath. So, in addition to regular dry brushing, try incorporating a retinol body cream into your cellulite-minimizing routine. The collagen-building ingredient works to plump and smooth your skin every time you use it

Tip #5 - Caffeine Scrub

If you don’t have time to massage a cream on every night, add a caffeine-filled body scrub to your shower. When used topically, a ground-coffee exfoliant can temporarily minimize the appearance of cellulite, thanks to the fact that coffee contains caffeine, which temporarily tightens and plumps your skin. “Caffeine can also dehydrate fat cells so they deflate, which then makes your cellulite look a little less obvious

Tip #6 - Grape seed Oil

Girls, this is one of my favorites that I swear by! and the one we use here at Flawless. Grape seed extract provides an easy solution for how to reduce cellulite. The nutrient works by increasing the strength of the connective tissues and collagen fibers found just beneath the skin. Grape seed extract is known for its antioxidant properties, and the flavonoids and tannins strengthen the walls of veins and lymph vessels. This improves circulation which helps prevent cellulite from forming.

Here at Flawless we have several treatments that are scientifically proven to effectively help diminish Cellulite such as Lymphatic Drainage treatments with Endospheres and Exilis Radiofrencuency
